The Coastal Schooner is a life-size three-masted heritage schooner being built on the National Events Deck on Saundersfoot Harbour. The masts will be used as a high ropes course for visitors to climb the rigging, as well as doubling up as an outdoor cinema. Below deck, will be a small kiosk and the second of three new interpretation centres in the Wales International Coastal Centre, looking at the maritime history of Pembrokeshire and Wales, including trade, piracy and smuggling.

The Wales International Coastal Centre is a £10million development on Saundersfoot Harbour, funded by the EU Funding Bodies, Welsh Government, and Coastal Communities Fund.

PRESS RELEASE: EXCITING NEWS - TALL SHIP TO SAIL INTO SAUNDERSFOOT IN 2022!
--
The Tall Ships (Wales) Trust (TS(W)T) is planning a charter of topsail schooner ‘Johanna Lucretia’ to visit Saundersfoot in 2022 and help celebrate the launch of the Coastal Schooner Maritime Heritage Centre and the opening of the Wales International Coastal Centre at Saundersfoot Harbour.

Pembrokeshire was once a thriving seagoing county and Top Sail Schooners, like ‘Johanna Lucretia’, would have been a common sight in the Haven and at Saundersfoot, carrying coal and other cargo.

The Tall Ship (Wales) Trust is offering a unique opportunity for the community to practically engage with their maritime heritage and to help plan and develop a Tall Ship programme for Saundersfoot.

The ‘Johanna Lucretia’ will provide activities at Hobbs Point and in the Milford Haven Waterway and offer opportunities for a Sail Training voyage for young people between the ages of 12 and 25.

“We are very excited to be supporting this fabulous event” said Sarah Whiddett, one of Saundersfoot Connect Facebook Group’s Admin Team. “We have already have lots of positive feedback with local people being keen to see the Johanna Lucretia sailing to Saundersfoot”.

In order to get this fabulous initiative off the ground the Trust is seeking funding.

If you’d like to offer your backing, please email tallshipswalestrust@gmail.com to say that you support the Coastal Communities Continued project and believe that it will make a significant difference to the Saundersfoot Community.

Everyone in the community is encouraged to take part in the many events that will surround the visit of ‘Johanna Lucretia’. If you are a member of a group who’d like to be involved, or if you’d like to get involved as an individual, please get in touch by email at tallshipswalestrust@gmail.com to register your interest.
